3 Games I Wish I Saw at E3

E3 has come and gone and with it we got a look at what the next year in gaming holds for us. With a few nice surprises and lots of solid gameplay shown it was an exciting and all around successful experience. However, there were a few games in particular I was looking forward too that didn’t show themselves at all. So here’s a list of the top 3 games I wish we got to see at this years E3.

 1. Anything Zelda Related

With the unveiling of the Wii U I had some pretty high hopes for an announcement of a new Zelda title. The tech demo from last years E3 went a long way in getting us excited for the prospects of a fully HD Zelda adventure but the only Wii U Zelda news we got was the franchises name on a mini-game launch title. I guess this is understandable, the Zelda franchise has a reputation of doing something new and innovative with each title so it may take time before Nintendo hits that perfect chord for a new game, but what really surprised me was that Majora’s Mask wasn’t announced for the 3DS. Numerous times Nintendo has poled their fans on what game they’d like to see brought to the system and the answer is almost always Majora’s Mask. The creative powers that be have even expressed interest in the project, but still we heard nothing. I don’t know, I suppose it’s fine for Zelda to take a break but with all the skepticism about the future of both of Nintendo’s systems it seems like they’d want one of their flagship titles to be present somewhere in the near future.

It's so pretty, come on guys gimme something

2. Final Fantasy Versus XIII

How many years has it been since this title was announced? Seriously I don’t even remember at this point. The game looked fantastic, the gameplay intriguing and the premise exhilarating… so why haven’t we heard anything about it in so long? Tetsuya Nomura’s vision of a Final Fantasy game with darker tones that plays more like Kingdom Hearts made my heart skip a beat the first time I looked at it. However, for some reason we haven’t heard a peep about the title for some time. I understand that with the Kingdom Hearts franchise having a new title being released in July you could say that Nomura has his hands full, it’s possible that the game is on hiatus while Kingdom Hearts is being given precedence, but I haven’t even heard a statement saying that. So here’s hoping we see something about this title next year.

Do we even know this guys name yet?

3. Bioshock Infinite

We all know that this game was pushed to 2013, it sucks but I can live with that. Taking the time to make a game the best it can be is a noble endeavor and there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s going to be worth the wait. The thing is, I’m sure they’ve been working on the game, improving it, creating the city Columbia down to every last detail, so why no footage? The prospective release date for this game is next February, and E3 is the biggest show of the year, would it really have been so hard to throw together some gameplay we haven’t seen before? Even a small scene from the game or a better look at the Songbird would have been really cool. It feels like such a waste not to market the game at E3 and keep the buzz around the game going, especially since the delay.

This is exactly how I feel about this game at the moment

E3 was pretty great this year; certain things could have been handled better but all around it was a good show. That said, I really would have liked to hear from any of these titles, especially when information has been so scarce for Zelda and FFvXIII, and Bioshock Infinite is not so far off. It feels to me like not giving the community any new information regarding this stuff is a waste. So, here’s hoping we hear something soon about these titles.

About the Author

+ I've never been good at talking about myself. I like to think of myself as a professional appreciator of games. My love of video games goes so deep that I wrote my senior thesis on Bioshock as a digital re-imagining of Atlas Shrugged, needless to say I will never play that game again.

Not a huge Bioshock fan at all but I whole heartedly agree with the other two choices. Wii U really had to wow fans this year since this will more than likely be the last E3 before it’s released…they showed PIkmin 3 which while it was pretty cool it kinda stood alone and didn’t excite anyone who wan’t a MAJOR Nintendo fan….Nintendoland looks like a bunch of silly Minigames which of course Id pick up but it’s not gonna really make me want to spend $300+ on a device that truly doesnt offer anything my PS3 can’t already…they really had to go all out with the 1st party and exclusive titles…seriously another side scrolling Super Mario? I didn’t get the last New SUper Mario Bros because I got all the enjoyment I could have gotten out of something like that on the DS title.

Final Fantasy Versus 13…I mean really Nomura…you can’t announce something SIX years and not even release barely anything about it. You had FF13 whatever but WHY the fuck would you go back to it when nobody even liked the first one enough to warrant a direct sequel and everybody just wanted Versus. SPeaking of that where in the HELL is Kingdom Hearts. Again six years and a bunch of spin-off games but it’s been more than time to release what we really want. It better be worth the wait!!!!!!

Last guardian from Ico is another game I wish I saw as well as Overstrike from Insomniac

I feel the same way about the last guardian but I didn’t have much hope of seeing anything knowing the companies track record. I understand the Bioshock series may not be for everyone, it holds a special place in my heart because I was able to write my senior thesis on it :) . Also, I actually love how Nomura is fleshing out the story of Kingdom Hearts with the side games, but I agree with you, the man really needs to get on the ball and take less time between titles.
