E3 2012s Top Five Best Moments

Now E3 2012 is over and done with it is time to relax.  What a show we had this year. Announcements and Reveals. Hype and Disappointment. Awkward CEOs and Unwanted Celebrities. While many people thought this years conferences were more than slightly lackluster, we still had some shocking moments and awesome games. Read on as Hard Reset count down the best of E3 2012.

There is nothing I enjoy more than a shocking turn. For the last few years THQ has owned the man grappling franchises WWE and UFC, with the last UFC Undisputed game releasing as recently as February this year. Dana White walking out on stage at the EA press conference was huge for the gaming world. EA now got control of all the major sports franchises under their evil grip. Well, WWE isn’t, if can call it a sports game that is. THQ apparently sold the IP to EA for an undisclosed amount of money, probably because THQ apparently has a few money issues. THQ then closed down the studio that brough us the UFC Undisputed games. However, politics and money problems aside, a real shocker is always going to be great.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are Comedy legends. South Park video games has always been middling at best. We knew this South Park RPG was coming thanks to the announcement earlier this year from THQ, but I think it slipped to back of everybodies minds. However, when a trailer rolled at the Microsoft press conference showing off the epicness, the hilarity and the great characters that we know and love from the TV show, gamers were instantly sold. When Stone and Parker appeared on stage to show they were committed to the product, we knew THQ and Obsidian were onto a winner.

Nintendo fans have been straining for a new Pikmin since the days of the Gamecube. Through out all of the Marios, Zelda, Donkeys and Samus’, a return to Olimar and his Pikmin has always been craved. When Miyamoto approached the stage being followed by a handful of the flowery creatures, I can only assume fanboys either shrieked, fainted or wet themselves. With all the rumours floating around talking of Metroid and Star Fox and the assumption of a 3D Mario title to launch the Wii U, Pikmin was a surprise. New Pikmin and four player co-op included and the fact that it’s launching the new Wii, gives the hardcore Nintendo fans a reason to care.

Naughty Dog can do no wrong in my book. Every Uncharted is a winner. Same goes for Crash Bandicoot and Jax & Daxter. When they showed off the first trailer for their New IP “The Last OF Us” last year, the gaming world was instantly wowed. When showing off gameplay to finish off the Playstation Presser, the gaming world was wowed again. The cinematic experience that is totally unscripted. It’s the tiny details that make the game, interrupting enemies, the bullet economy, the animations, the AI. Every detail is amazing and it’s those details that will turn the game into Sony big title for 2013.

Ubisoft had a great conference at this years E3. Far Cry 3, Shootmania, Assassins Creed 3, Splinter Cell and a slew of Wii U titles. Thats a decent showing from a third party publisher. However, when CEO Yves trotted out to announce a new IP. Ears in audience pricked up. A gameplay trailer for Watch Dogs was shown. Ears were blown off. Not only does it seem to be an awesome game, based on an interesting story and gameplay premise, but the fact that Ubisoft do not usually produce this time of game. Added is the fact that the game has been in development for two years and hasn’t leaked. An awesome game that came as a huge surprise makes for the best moment of E3 2012.
