Indie game Slender will have you looking back

You may not know what expect by just the title, but if you are familiar with the meme culture the name might haunt you.

Slender is a new indie game (currently in Beta) that focuses its plot entirely on the meme of The Slender Man. The concept for this originated from a forum topic on the Something Awful forums when users were tasked with creating paranormal images.

The Slender Man is a tall shadowy figure with limbs that resemble tree roots and a pale blank face. He  is most commonly seen by lone travelers or hunters in the woods but has a reputation for stalking children as well. He has also has been seen in photo’s that have been taken right before a great tragedy has taken place, often to cover his tracks.

Hadley/Parsec Productions have taken the myth and used its likeness for the foundation of this Amnesia style horror game.  Currently in the game, you are tasked with finding eight notes that relate to Slender Man. The environment consists of a large forested area, a small public washroom area, and a house. The game is dark as one would expect. The night is very dark and your light is dim, and the woods are not vibrant in colour. All of this is to aid in tricking your mind and eyes into seeing him between every tree.

Can you spot the Slender Man?

You have no way to defend yourself from the Slender Man, a flashlight being your only tool. Looking at Slender Man for more than a second will damage you deeply, or even kill you. He moves unseen and silently, so you will begin to panic between sightings and thus make him appear ever closer. This all runs off an unseen meter for your sanity, very much taken from Amnesia.

If you are feeling brave enough to face Slender, here is the Reddit page where links can be found for both PC and Mac. The games website is undergoing maintenance due to bandwidth issues current. Just be sure to keep the lights on.
