The Playlist #2

Read on to find what the staff have been playing over the past seven days.
Even you guys can have a chance to contribute to next weeks playlist and earn yourself a Amazon gift card in the process.

After last weeks refresh, my Metal Gear Solid quest has been put on hold by two huge, totally awesome Xbox live arcade titles. Well that and annoying the N4G cretins. The sequel to Trials, one of the best-selling XBLA titles, was released on Wednesday.

If you are too lazy to read my review, first, shame on you, but I will offer you a choice quote.

When distilled down to its core, Evolution is platform gaming at its best. Superbly tight controls. Beautiful, sweeping backgrounds. Satisfyingly simple to pick up, but blisteringly hard to master.

Despite those few little complaints in the review, which knocked it from a five down to a four, you still NEED to play this game. Usually I talk myself out of buying downloadable games, even though they just sit right there on my hard drive. I need to learn to get around to playing them. Trials: Evolution however, may be the title that breaks that chain. Fez, however, may be one of those titles that stagnates behind convoluted Xbox menus.

It’s a shame, the game couldn’t be more fantastic. That sentiment is especially evident in the review, written by our newest editor Ciaran Utting saying,

From the witty, knowing dialogue of its characters, to its almost philosophical ideas on the very nature of existence, you’ll be hard pressed to find something as hypnotic and charming as this.

Hard Reset columnist Ben Hayhoe also added to Ciarans thoughts saying

Argh, it’s just perfect.

In the world of disc based games, me and my partner in crime (and sometimes rhyme) Ben Quy sat a played through portions of The Witcher 2 and put them together for a pilot for our new series Hard Reset plays.

Ben also interviewed Jenai from the team at 8bitEGO. Those guys are putting on a SFxT event. If want to know more, including how to attend, check out the interview.

Jack Butler is still balls deep in Skullgirls. To make sense of his inane ramblings last week, he told me

I came for the charm and whimsical characters, I stayed for the well thought out and in-depth gameplay.

However, news hit that Diablo 3 beta goes open this weekend, so that may tear him away. I would except some thoughts on that next week.

We also had one of you guys tell what they have played. Reader Daniel Schofield said,

This week I’ve been trying Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning. Very pretty game with some interesting character builds but the main story hasn’t really grabbed me yet and the sheer amount of fetch/carry/collect quests makes it quite dull.
I’ve also been revisiting Ico and Shadow of the colossus in HD great games but It’s going to take some practice to clear the castle in under 2 hours and get that damn trophy!

Congratulations Dan! Just get in contact with us at Contact@hardreset.co.uk and your prize will be with you quicker than you can shout “I F’ING LOVE HARD RESET. THEY ARE WELL GOOD THEY ARE”.

So that’s whats on our Playlist this week. Tell us whats been spinning in your consoles recently in the comments below and you might be featured in next weeks Playlist. The best response will win a £5 amazon gift card.
