Tips to Conquering the New Assassin’s Creeds

Who out there loves to get Platinum trophies on their Playstation profile? Who loves racking up points on their Gamerscore? Don’t lie to yourself, it feels good, it feels real good. So with Assassin’s Creed 3 and it’s counterpart Liberation in stores it’s another chance to knock that those scores up a peg. The best thing about these games is that while some of these on tougher side, getting them is completely manageable. So with this article I’m going to break down 3 of the harder Trophies/Achievements for each game and make some of those puzzling moments a little clearer. So lets kick things off with Assassin’s Creed 3:

Eye Witness:

To unlock this jewel you need to witness a predator kill an enemy. Now this is totally up to luck right? I mean you either wander into this one or you don’t. Wrong ladies and gentlemen, there is a method to ensure you grab this one. Once you’ve reached the restricted part of the Packanack region, you should travel up the hill to the west. Take a look around and you should see 2 guards on patrol. Stalk these guys and make sure not to get seen. Follow them long enough and there’s a good chance that a bobcat will jump out and maul some faces!

Spit Roast:

This one’s interesting, perform a double assassination with a musket. It’s possible to wander around with a musket and look for two guards close enough to each other for you to pull this off, or you can do what I did and consult the internet. The cool thing about Assassin’s Creed as a series is that there always seems to be one perfect place to pull off each achievement/trophy. For Spit Roast, this place is Boston. See that long deck around central Boston? Well there’s a gun rack, and two guards just chillin’, it’s more or less an open invitation to make a bad-guy-kabob so have at it.

Jäger Bomb:

It’s time to get notorious! Go about this however you like, stealing in plain sight, running into soldiers, murdering anyone who looks you in the eye, what have you. After becoming fully notorious you have to kill 10 Jäger’s before going incognito. What makes this one tough is that Jägers are damn good fighters, so don’t expect to just take them out like nothing… that is unless you’ve loaded up on projectiles. As it turns out these guys are helpless against darts and guns. You can also trip them up through weapon counters. As long as you go into this prepared you’ll be fine.

When it comes to Liberation, things are a little more complicated. As I mentioned in my review, the game is still plagued by glitches at this point so different methods work for some people and not others. Through my own research and execution I managed to Platinum this game, and these are the trophies that tripped me up. They may not necessarily be the hardest, but they are the most nuanced:

What Is She Doing?:

For this trophy you have to kill 7 enemies on rooftops while in the lady persona. This one is tricky for a few reasons, the first being the lady can’t climb onto rooftops. There are certain areas where you can climb ladders up to a roof for a kill, but those never seemed to count for me. Some people reported firing poison darts from the street into guards on roofs working for them, but again this method didn’t work for my copy of the game. What I did get to work was a bit odd; Get 7 or more guards (not thieves) to follow you to your Assassin’s headquarters and take them up the ramp, then run all the way to the banister and take them out!

Poison:

This is another trophy that backs up my theory of Assassin’s Creed always putting in the perfect area to pull these challenges off. To get this you need to have a berserked enemy kill 5 other enemies. In sequence 3-3 Aveline gains the berserk poison darts, this is the perfect time to grab the trophy. Basically just follow the mission normally until you get to the caravan. You’ll see 5 regular guards and one Veteran (white coat), hit the Veteran with the berserk dart and watch the show. There are two important things to remember about this one, you may not get it on the first try, and stay in the tree, or the berserked guard will come after you.

Tree Ninja:

Now come on, assassinate 15 enemies from trees? That’s simple enough right? Well apparently not, there are really odd stipulations to getting this trophy that the game never specifies. For one, kills made from the smaller trees you can stand in don’t count, no clue why, they just don’t. In fact, the only kills that do count are kills using the hidden blades that are off of tree branches of full trees while guards don’t know where you are. Oh yeah, and no double assassinations, they don’t count. Thankfully you can pick this trophy up in the same place as Poison, sequence 3-3. Work your way up to the caravan and assassinate baddies one at a time from the branches of full grown trees. It may take 3-4 runs through this sequence to get the trophy but keep at it, it will happen.

These are the trophies that can really trip you up, either because of ridiculous specifications that aren’t really explained, or the need to be in the right place at the right time. I also learned 1 other interesting thing while researching for this article that pertains to both games:

AC3: Perfectionist / AC3 Liberation: Complete 100% of all Mission Constraints:

You know those pesky achievements/trophies in every Assassin’s Creed where you have to sync every memory 100%? Well in AC3 and Liberation they take a slightly different approach to these that can make tougher missions a little more manageable. For instance, if you have a mission with 3 different optional objectives and you are having trouble doing all 3 at the same time, don’t sweat it! You don’t have too! In these games you can play the missions multiple times, do different optional objectives and they’ll stack on top of each other. So keep in mind that going for a perfect sync doesn’t necessarily mean doing it all in one go.

Keep this info in mind and you’ll have 2 new platinum trophies or jack up your gamerscore.

+ I've never been good at talking about myself. I like to think of myself as a professional appreciator of games. My love of video games goes so deep that I wrote my senior thesis on Bioshock as a digital re-imagining of Atlas Shrugged, needless to say I will never play that game again.
