Zac Grubbs E3 Predications
Rumour, speculation and harsh words have been flying around the Hard Reset offices for the past couple of weeks. The basis of these arguments? E3 2012. It seems has nobody can agree on whats going to happen during the press conferences at the LA convention center this June. Whats games are going to be shown off? What announcements can we expect? New consoles? Price drops? Anything could happen! So, in order to find out who thinks they know the most, I told everyone to calm down, put pen to paper and write down three predictions for this years E3. Who knows the most? Let’s find out…
E3 is basically my dream; I’ve been trying to make my way there since I was a kid. Even once they closed it to the community and made it a press only event, I decided that I’d become a member of the press so I still had a chance to go. When it comes to E3 I try to keep all of my information straight; this developer is making this announcement, this game will be showing, etc. etc. Along the way, like any other gamer, I start trying to pick out what we’ll be seeing at the event. This year though the mysteries seem to be getting pretty out of hand, and I’ve got to say that’s exciting! So without further to do, here’s a few things I think we’re going to see at E3 this year.
Xbox Loop: Side Project or Next-Gen?
Okay, the Xbox Loop, there has been some wild spiraling around the topic of what this really is, but I think this years E3 will put it to rest. Considering that Microsoft has been adamant about not premiering their new console at this year’s show I think we’re going to get a look at the Xbox Loop as a more advanced form of Kinect. Different sites have reported “Loop” as the name of Microsoft’s Next-gen console but I think this is a case of different hardware getting tangled together. Even the sites that report “Loop” as the new console say it’s going to be smaller and more Kinect focused, and honestly, I don’t think that’s the future direction Microsoft wants to take the Xbox in. So, long story short, I think we’ll be getting a look at Project Loop, but the next generation of Xbox will have to wait until 2013.
New Smash Bros.?
I’ll be honest, there isn’t much out there to back this one up but I think we’ll at least get some kind of announcement about its production. Over the course of this year the creators of SSB have confirmed that there will (eventually) be a new title in the franchise and that it will be on the Wii U. They have also stated that a new Smash Bros. on the Wii U will mean a Smash Bros. on the 3DS and that the two games will interact with each other in a big way. Since this E3 is going to have an onslaught of Wii U news I don’t think it’s out of the question to get a little hint at a new Smash Bros. do you?
More than the name on a cocktail napkin this year…
Sony Will Give Us Reasons to Buy a Vita
The PS Vita is struggling in sales now, and I think that’s why this E3, Sony is going to try to convince us to get our hands on one. One of the big ways they’re going to do this? Porting games like crazy. I think we’re going to see a lot of PS3 titles be shrunk down to Vita size, as well as have plenty of Playstation classics be rereleased, possibly in HD. On top of this I think we’ll see Playstation All-Stars on the Vita with PS3 Compatibility. It also wouldn’t surprise me if we get a full character roster for the game, or at least a handful of new fighters announced. On top of these new reasons to buy a Vita I think we’re also looking at a price cut for the system! Making it a little more accessible to low income gamers and… Oh who am I kidding? There’s no chance of that happening any time soon.
These are only a few things we may get to see at E3, but with titles like The Last Of Us, Assassin’s Creed 3, Dead Space 3, Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 along with hardware like the Wii U, I feel gamers are in for a good show this year. So lets all keep Hard Reset bookmarked and stay glued to our smartphones for the latest E3 News.
…Oh yeah, and Bioshock Infinite, I wanna see me some more Bioshock Infinite.
